Ted Cruz sent a letter to the Financial Clerk of the Senate asking for his salary to be held until the end of the “Democrat Shutdown.”
Cruz wrote, “It’s not right for Members of Congress to be paid if the working men and women of DHS aren’t.”

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, has asked the Senate financial clerk to hold his salary as Department of Homeland Security (DHS) workers go unpaid during the partial government shutdown.
He shared a letter to the clerk on X that states, “For the remainder of the current partial lapse in appropriations, please hold my salary for pickup in the Disbursing Office.”
The partial shutdown has now hit the 40th day.
TSA agents are working without pay.
As the partial government shutdown stretches into its 40th day, TSA agents at Houston-area airports are working without pay, leaving frontline workers scrambling to pay bills while Congress remains deadlocked over funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Long lines at TSA checkpoints have become a visible sign of the shutdown’s impact on travelers, but for agents, the issue is far more personal.
“This isn’t about politics,” said Congressman Wesley Hunt. “It’s about stability, fair compensation, and keeping Americans safe.”
It appeared that a deal was getting closer, but that deal is being criticized.
A proposal endorsed Monday by President Trump to end the 40-day shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is taking fire from Democrats and conservative Senate Republicans, delaying a possible vote to reopen the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and other critical agencies.
The proposal to fund most of DHS but put off funding Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) removal operations appeared to have momentum, but that changed on Tuesday when critics in both parties panned it.
…
Republican colleagues who presented the proposal to Trump on Monday said they can provide more money for ICE’s deportation programs through a budget reconciliation package later in the year, but some conservatives are doubtful that will actually happen, given the difficulty of passing a reconciliation bill through both chambers with only GOP votes.
