John Thune Denies Trump’s Call To Fire Senate Parliamentarian

The Senate Parliamentarian ruled that the SAVE America Act did not comply with the Senate Byrd Rule.
This meant it could not be included in a budget reconciliation package and thus needed 60 votes to pass.
The parliamentarian ruled that the SAVE America Act did not comply with the Senate’s Byrd Rule, which determines what legislation is eligible to be included in a budget reconciliation package that can pass with a simple-majority vote, thereby avoiding a filibuster and 60-vote threshold.
As a result, Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) — two Trump allies — had to ask for 60 votes to waive the budgetary objections in order to consider their proposals to amend the budget reconciliation package with the SAVE America Act.
Both motions fell well short of sixty votes.
Trump has once again called for her firing.

John Thune responded by saying her job was safe.
But despite Trump’s pleas for her ouster, Thune indicated that Macdonough’s job was safe in short order, according to Punchbowl News’ Andrew Desiderio.
“Parliamentarian rulings break both ways. You lose a few, you win a few. That’s been true when the Democrats have been in the majority too. That’s a hard job. It’s a very specific skill set. And you need somebody that is going to be a fair referee,” said the Republican leader after being asked about Trump’s comments.
