President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he is nominating Jesus Osete, a senior Justice Department official, to serve as a judge on the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri.

Osete currently serves as Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. Before joining the department, he held senior legal positions in Missouri, including general counsel to the Missouri Secretary of State and deputy attorney general and deputy solicitor general in the Missouri Attorney General’s Office.

Trump highlighted Osete’s legal background in announcing the nomination, noting that he previously clerked for judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and the Supreme Court of Missouri. Osete earned his law degree from Washington University in St. Louis and his undergraduate degree from the University of Arizona.

The president said Osete has the support of Missouri Republican Sens. Eric Schmitt and Josh Hawley, calling him a “strong Defender of the Constitution.”

President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he is nominating Phil Axt, the Solicitor General of North Dakota, to serve on the U.S. District Court for the District of North Dakota.

Axt has represented the state in numerous high-profile cases, including legal challenges to policies implemented by the Biden administration. Before becoming an attorney, Axt attended the U.S. Military Academy and served in the U.S. military, including deployments to Afghanistan.

Trump also highlighted Axt’s legal background, noting that he previously clerked for Judge Jennifer Elrod of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and is a graduate of Yale Law School.

In announcing the nomination, Trump praised Axt as a “true warrior” and said he would be a strong defender of the Constitution and the rule of law.
